Acupuncture FAQ

I've got a question

Does it hurt?

No, acupuncture should not hurt! ¬†Acupuncture isn’t anything like getting a shot from the doctor. Acupuncture needles are the diameter of a thick human hair. You might feel a mild pricking sensation and a slight ache at the acupuncture point. You don’t have to endure discomfort. Acupuncture is so relaxing patients frequently fall asleep during treatment.

Is acupuncture safe?

Yes, acupuncture is safe if performed by a licensed practitioner. For the millions of treatments provided yearly the risk of injury is small. Acupuncture needles are sterile and single use only.

How often will I need to be treated?

Each case is treated individually. Acupuncture is best applied with several treatments spaced closely together. A usual course of treatment can be between three to twelve sessions. My goal is to have you feeling better as quickly as possible.

What should I do after a treatment?

I recommend that you rest after an acupuncture treatment. If you must, you can go to work or resume your regular routine afterwards. Immediately after a treatment its best to avoid strenuous activity or performing complicated tasks.

Are there any side effects?

Occasionally there can be bruising and sometimes soreness, otherwise acupuncture is generally free of side effects.
